I’ve seen it live on monitors at a trade show and it looked startlingly good, when you consider what a tiny little camera that footage is coming from. Only thing is, it’s 1080i-only, no 24p, no progressive scan at all, so if you’re interested in making filmlike footage it’s not going to be the best choice for that.

Did you see Scorcese’s “The Departed”? If so, you’ve already seen how the HVX200 projects on the silver screen — there was a shot from the HVX that was inserted into the theatrical release of “The Departed”.
“Sarah Landon” was shot in 720p mode with the Redrock M2 adapter. There’s another film coming out sometime called “Childless” (Joe Mantegna, Barbara Hershey) that was shot in 720p mode but without any lens adapter. I don’t know of any theatrical releases yet that were shot in 1080p mode.

Totally reasonable. But instead of just trying to line up waveforms, I strongly suggest you get a clapper slate. It’s sooooo much easier to line up by the “clack” than to try to overlap waveforms. 🙂

No… the HPX500 can do it, but not the HVX200.

As long as you write-protect the cards before putting them in the computer, there is no issue. But if you put them in unprotected, then there’s a very small chance that some frames will get corrupted at random points, during the transfer.

Okay, let me ask the big question: do you use a Mac?
Before you make any manner of decision of whether the clips are corrupt or not, please remove FCP/Mac from the equation. Plug the P2 Store into a Windows computer and view the files on P2 Viewer or P2CMS. I’d bet a nickel that your files are fine, and that any errors or corruption is due to the Mac issues once again.

Not true — that’s where your mistake is. The P2 driver is necessary for any device that accesses P2 cards. So yes you need to install the driver for using an HVX connected via USB; you’d also install a driver to use the PCD20, or anything else.
Install the proper driver and your problems will disappear. 🙂

On a Windows system you could use Raylight to convert the MXF audio files into .WAV audio files.
I don’t know if the Mac offers similar functionality; hopefully someone will chime in and let us know.

1080 is less compressed than 720 is (not in theory, but in actual practice) so you’ll see fewer compression artifacts. But 1080i/60 is interlaced so you’ll have to put up with interlaced artifacts.
