Are you running leopard (10.5) by any chance?
There are many people who cannot use Dual Adapter under Leopard.

I find P2CMS useful for modifying metadata after the fact, and for creating metadata prior to shooting.
The issue I have with P2CMS for offloading cards is that the clips all get tossed into one directory, lossing the individual card structure.
Maybe it’s the way my brain works, but I prefer to see the individual reels on the drive.
Check out HD Log for offloading P2 cards. It can copy to multiple volumes and run all cards unattended. We used it at the iditarod with good success.

I have had no luck using the Duel with Leopard and I know several others with the same issue.
Seems that if you had the DA running under Tiger (10.4) and upgrade to Leopard, then it will work.
I did a clean install of Leopard and could not make the Duel adapter work.
I fact, Leopard has been quirky enough to make me go back to Tiger.

I have an HPX500 and use the Zeiss Digi-Primes with it all the time. They look great.
I have also used Pro35 with Zeiss Super Speeds, but prefer the Digi Primes because there is no light loss.

Try repairing your disk permissions.
Also try changing scratch disk to another volume.
Maybe you do not have write access to that particular volume.

I have experienced this myself, and have heard from others with the same problem.
Obviously, Apple has changed something in Leopard.

I have been using blu-ray for about 1 year now as one method of archiving p2 cards.
I bought a Panasonic SW5582 internal and Toast 8. The drive cost me about $1000, but now I have seen them for less than $500.
The burn time is 45 mins for a 25GB disc, and about 90 mins for a 50GB. These speeds are of course optimal, and not average.
A 50GB disc may take 2 hours to burn and another 2 hours to verify.
The 50GB discs are down to $30 per disc. Maybe less if you can buy in bulk.
You can use Toast to burn data across multiple discs, but the size of the discs must match. So if you want to burn 60GB of data, you will need to use 3 25GB discs or 2 50GB discs.
I also have a Quantum 600a dlt drive with the mxf support. I like this format for projects that are larger than 50GB. Each tape holds 300GB.
Hope that helps.

I believe that the P2 roadshows are dealer events.
Lobby your local Panasonic dealer to hold an event if you want one.

[tarkken] “Is there any way that it can play back footage from a hard drive – either footage that you had previously transfered from card to drive, or footage that you had written to a P2 format folder in Edius?”
There is no way to see video from anything except a p2 card. You can see the thumbnails from cards on the hard drive, but not moving video.
