  • Import issue I can’t get my head around.

Guys, I’ve searched for an answer for this for about a week and I just can’t figure out what the deal is.

    Here’s my situation.

    1. Shot footage on HVX200 16GB P2 card. 1080i60. (just playing around)

    2. Used Dueladapter to bring footage to MBP 2.33 Intel Core 2 Duo 3GB RAM.

    3. Transfered Contents AND Lastclip (in folder called P2 Import) files to Q-Drive.

    4. Connected Q-Drive to MACPRO 2 x 3 Ghz Quad Core 13GB RAM.

    5. Imported to FCP 6.0.2 to edit…. HERE is my problem.

I’m using Log and Transfer to bring the footage in and can see, play and scroll through footage in the preview window. But when I try to import the footage to the bin…I get the red stop sign after it appears that it’s imported …in other words, no clips in the bin. This happens whether I try to import the footage from the Q-Drive OR copy the footage to the HD and try it from there.

…NOW, here’s the kicker…. The Log and Transfer works flawlessly on the MPB running FCP 5.1.4… clips in bins, ability to edit footage, the whole deal.

What in the hell am I doing wrong here?

    Thanks guys.

Do you have Noise Industries FX Factory installed? This interferes with the Log and Transfer of P2.

….Somehow, Shane, I KNEW you’d come to my rescue! Your tutorial on importing from P2 saved me on my first project on the old G5….now, to answer your Q: That is a negative on the FX Factory. There’s not a lot of “stuff” on this unit.. I’ve tried keeping it as bare bones as possible.

OK…then how about looking in the little sprocket drop down menu (in the Log and Transfer window) and click on PREFERENCES. UNCHECK the “remove pulldown” option.

    Did that do it?

….no sir. I’m completely baffled by it all… but I guarantee that it turns out to be something completely stupid on my part.

Try removing Perian and make sure you have the drivers from Panasonic installed:

….. NO luck…. I don’t have Perian….I don’t have FX Factory… I downloaded and installed everything I could from the Panasonic site that was linked… the only thing I didn’t download was from the Dueladapter site, because I don’t use the Duel on the MacPro…. surely THAT wouldn’t anything to do with it, would it?…. Just thinking out loud here, could there be some bizarre setting that I’m missing on my scratch drive? The only reason I’m asking that is because, while the clip is going through motion of importing I’ve noticed that the space availability on the scratch drive doesn’t change… Is FCP maybe telling the drive..”Hey…I can’t take/use what you’re trying to give me?”…. I’m really at a loss here…. and thanks for the help guys…I’m plugging away at it, and I really appreciate it.

how much space do you have on the scratch? Make some room on there.

    ….plenty of room…. 697GB…. I’ve even tried switching scratch drives….

    Try repairing your disk permissions.

Also try changing scratch disk to another volume.

Maybe you do not have write access to that particular volume.

….absolutely no luck with any of those. At this point I’m thinking the probelm is something sooo basic that, with all this fretting, I’ve just forgotten all about it. Do you think there’s any issues when I’m transferring the files from either the MBP to the Q-Drive…. or even from the Q-Drive to the MacPro?…. a corruption… a file left behind…??…. I’m really at a loss at this point.
