Questions about P2 Gear AG-HPG10
I’m thinking/hoping that this may be a handy little utility afterall:
My main use would be for quick/client preview, file transfers and downconversion.
1) Can you only play P2 footage that resides on the P2 cards themselves? Edius will let you write video back from the edit timeline out to a P2 format in a hard drive folder you designate. Is there any way for this device to be able to play back video from an external harddrive if it was written by Edius, and/or if you’ve moved it off of the P2 cards with this unit to a hard drive. Long story short – can you play back video from a hard drive with it?
2) Can you play back P2 footage back over firewire – that is, can you have HD P2 footage on cards (or hopefully from a hard drive (above) and downconvert and stream that footage to be captured as DV/firewire (say into a camcorder, editor, etc)? Or is this downconversion only via the analog composite/component i/o?
3) Is it compliant with the AVC-Intra codecs coming out?
4) What’s the price again – somewhere in the low $3K list?

You can play clips on the cards and view them on the lcd screen as well as hd-sdi output or sd downconvert.

Is there any way that it can play back footage from a hard drive – either footage that you had previously transfered from card to drive, or footage that you had written to a P2 format folder in Edius?

There is no way to see video from anything except a p2 card. You can see the thumbnails from cards on the hard drive, but not moving video.
