I decided to import the clips on my MacBook Pro with FCP 5.1.2, and it worked fine.

I then hooked up the hvx via firewire to the MacPro, and it worked fine. I also tried it again from the p2 files on my hard drive, and this time it worked fine.

    Strange…

These were from a P2 Store, and I also tried from p2 files copied from HD.

I trashed the prefs, but no love.

I will try it on my MacBookPro and see if it works there.

  • [Russell Scott] “So back to one of my original questions… How far can I run a firewire cable out of this camera and get reliable results? 25ft? 50ft? more?”

Firewire 400 has a distance limit of 4.5 meters or about 12′.

There are companies that make repeaters, but I have not used them.
    Markertek has some

September 3, 2006 at 11:27 am in reply to: Macpro and Blu Ray

I purchased a Panasonic BluRay burner for my MacPro after Roxio told me that the 7.1 version of Toast supported bluray.

It turns out that you need an oem version of toast, which roxio will not sell you. You need to buy it from a vendor that bundles it with the drive.

Roxio tech support would not even tell me who has an oem version available for the mac.

There is only one vendor that I know of that seems to have a mac oem bundle, Logitec.
    Sorry, no link.

August 25, 2006 at 10:46 am in reply to: P2 store will it, wont it?

I own and use a P2 store all the time without incident. I have also rented and used the FS100 without any problems.

It always comes down to the operator experience and the abilty (or lack of) to follow the directions.

Are you trying to import into FCP? Do you have 5.04?

Are you trying to use the camera as a card reader?

If so, you need to put the hvx into playback mode and then hold the toggle button for about 3 secs. The camera will switch into PC Dub mode.

You can then use P2 import from FCP.

January 31, 2006 at 4:40 am in reply to: Importing from P2: Error

FCP doesn’t care about the AV settings for p2 import. It will read the clips in whatever format they were recorded in.

The sequence settings need to match the clip settings to avoid rendering.
