Importing from P2: Error
OK…so I have a G-Raid with all the P2 raw data card downloads…nicely separated into individual folders: Artillery 1, Artillery 2, Battle 1 and so on. And in each of these folders is the CONTENTS folder containing the AUDIO, CLIP, ICON, PROXY, VIDEO and VOICE folders…and the LASTCLIP.txt file. In FCP I am going FILE>IMPORT>Panasionic P2 and navigating to each folder and importing…seeing a preview of all the clips in this window.
OK…got that.
But occassionally, I will get the error that some of the clips weren’t imported because they were incomplete or corrupt. For one I counted 32 clips in the IMPORT window…yet only 20 imported. 11 were missing. When I went to the drive, I noticed that the VIDEO folder had 20 items…all 20 that imported…but then where did the other 11 images come from? Well, I looked in the CLIP folder and there they were…the missing 11 clips…but there was no corresponding video file.
Now…does this mean that the file was most likey deleted in the camera by the operator? I know that the DP and camera guys liked the fact that if a shot they were shooting was just plain bad, or something happened or they couldn’t get it right all they had to do was delete it and it was gone…thus saving time and space. Does this mean that the CLIP files will still be there, but the VIDEO files are gone?
Just trying to wrap my head around this new fangled technology.
ALSO…I have two folders with CLIPS and VIDEO files but they won’t import. I get the error: “Selected path does not contain a P2 volume.” But all the clips and video files (.MXF) are there. Oh…wait…I just noticed that one of them has CLIPS, but no VIDEO. I am having my producer look at the main drives for them.
What they did is on location dumped this footage to four 80GB Lacie Porche drives. My producer then took that information and copied it onto a 1TB G-Raid and gave that to me…putting the LaCie’s on a shelf. So he is checking those original drives for the missing info.
ANYWAY…I still have one folder with proper info not working properly, and 11 clips with no video…
