There is no reason for you to make a 23.98 DVD. You should make a 29.97 DVD, and then you won’t have to worry as much about the quality of the conversion. going from 59.94 to 23.98 can create bad motion artifacts.

There was a study released a couple of weeks ago which said that people who habitually multitask are not good at any of the things they do, that they do everything poorly. (Since that came out, I’ve been pushing back at the guy I work for, asking him which things should be done badly, or which thing was worth missing the other deadlines for.)
I think the “preditor” concept is promoted by people who don’t particularly care about the quality, only that they get to bill top dollar for underpaying someone else.
If you have an opportunity to either edit or produce at a higher rate, then do that.
To continue to work 2x as hard for 1/2 the pay is to endorse the concept that working 2x as hard is worth only 1/2 as much. You’re also endorsing the concept that your work only deserves 1/2 the value, 1/2 the attention and 1/2 the quality.
If you can command a better price from clients who value the quality, care and effort you put into your work, then I don’t see what the question is.

And while you’re at it, make sure that the directory paths on both systems are the same. they need to have identical directory structures or oddly located files may not be found by FCP.
Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper can be helpful to keep the drives in sync.

Highpoint cards are garbage. The only cards I would use on a Mac are either Atto or Areca.
Atto’s tech support is 1st class, and that helps to justify the extra cost of the card. They also have a very well deserved rep for making great, reliable products. I’ve never had to use Areca’s tech support (knock on wood!), so I can’t comment.
I own an Areca 1100 series RAID card, and it’s very good. I’ve worked with Atto SCSI and fiber channel cards and they’re very good. I’ve used Highpoint cards and they are garbage.

What does your original contract say? There’s often a clause about this saying who owns logos, characters and other graphic elements developed for the project.

That sounds like interlace lines. I could be that your fields are reversed.

Those are both SD only decks. I’ve heard that this HD thing may take off someday.
It’s the 21st century. Maybe you should be looking at a Sony HDV deck. It will play back miniDV tapes, but it will also play back Sony & Cannon HDV tapes. That will open up more possibilities for you right now than buying a used SD onlu miniDV deck.

This camera records in MPEG format. Color is not compatible with most MPEG formats, and that version of Color is not compatible with any MPEG.
If you want to use Color, you’ll need to transcode your footage into something Color can understand, preferably ProRes or uncompressed.
