That’s a lot of extra work to do something simple. All you really need to do is to select the master clip in the browser or viewer, press command-9 to open up the item properties window, & then change the aspect ratio in the format tab.

Simplest way is to place a slug on a layer over your picture & use a garbage matte to cut a hole in it to reveal the picture beneath.

Nothing. DV is less than half the height of 1080i HD, it’s supposed to be smaller. If you want it to be the same size you need to scale it up. You can scale it using the motion tab in the viewer, or you can run it through Compressor, which will do a not too bad job of scaling up & retiming your footage.
Or you can capture your footage through a Kona 2 or 3 card via SDI card to scale it up in realtime.

You may want to check with an engineer at your lab, but as I understand it, in 1080 there are no truly progressive tape or broadcast formats. So the 24psf format is just a simple workaround to deliver a progressive frame within an interlaced format.

The Kona 3 card supports 2k. If you have a Mac Pro or G5 Quad you can install a Kona 3 & work in 2k. You’ll also need a lot of very fast storage to work in 2k.
As for what you’ll need to deliver to the lab, well that depends on the lab. Every lab will have it’s own requirements, which are based on their own unique way of working. Many will take a tiff, Cineon or DPX sequence, others may require D5 tape. The sooner you choose a lab, the better, so that you can start working towards conforming to their standard.

The Pannies rock! We took the 17″ on location for a feature film shoot in Moscow, & we’ve been using the 26″ in the edit suite. These monitors are very versatile & give the best blacks I’ve ever seen on a LCD video monitor. Plus they come standard with all the analog & digital I/O built in. Plus they have a built in wave form monitor.
Of course, I’ve never seen the eCinema monitors, but for that kind of $$ you could get a CRT! Assuming you could still find one. 😉
