Sorry, I didn’t understand you. Without the digiTranslator, I think the only other option to get discrete audio files into the ProTools timeline is to give your mixer an audio EDL & the tapes with original audio on them so the mixer can digitise the audio himself.

You do not need the digitranslator. You export directly from your FCP timeline. It’s in your FCP manual.

Look up OMF exports in your FCP manual. ProTools wants an OMF file from you.

[Chris Babbitt] “It happens when I reposition the text in the canvas and render.”
You’re probably causing the fields to reverse. If you’re using Live Type, why don’t you position the text there?

Thanks, I had already tried that. It seemed to have no effect either way.

[1Videomilkman] “Adobe bridge product lets you “fix” a photoshop file that is inside of After Effects. then it automatically updates the fix inside”
I do this with FCP all the time. Right click on any still image file & it will open up in whatever photo editor you’ve designated in your system preferences. When you save the file it will be automatically updated in FCP. Same with audio sent to Soundtrack or mograph files sent to Motion.

Try this:
Copy the clip to the track above. Remove any filters from the bottom layer. Apply CC & any other filters to the top layer & set the composite mode to “Track Matte Alpha”.

February 17, 2007 at 4:22 pm in reply to: FORMATTING OF “INTERIM” DRIVE for P2 MEDIA IN THE FIELDIf this drive is being used with windows, it should be formatted as FAT32. Otherwise the windows computer won’t be able to see the drive.
Did you unmount the drive before you unplugged it? That’s one thing that can cause a drive to crash. Or it may have crashed for any number of other reasons.
On location, I kept 2 sets of drives, the drives I worked from & a backup set that was mirrored from the main set of drives. That way if a drive failed, I could format it & copy back the data from the backup drive without fear of loosing any work or very much time.
The one time a drive did fail on me, I was able to recover the drive with Disk Warrior. The whole process from rebooting the mac to finishing up with Disk Warrior took maybe 5 or 10 minutes.

Was your IT guy talking about a computer monitor? That would be less than ideal. Larger monitors may have the right resolution but computer monitors are designed to display a different color space & gamma than HD video.

February 16, 2007 at 4:01 am in reply to: Aja Io with HD needed… solution sugestion: Io LHeExcellent points, Daniel.
As I said above, my main concern is for use on fast moving location shoots. For studio work & for post, I’d rather have a well configured Mac Pro with an appropriate HD card in it’s PCIe slot. I’m most concerned with monitoring, and using scopes, maybe using a keyer to preview comps, etc. And I’d like to be able to capture over component or SDI to DVCPro HD.
But that’s just my needs. YMMV
