I know. Like mapping Command-F9 to do what LLL does. I don’t really see how that’s any easier.

AE does everything in RGB colorspace. FCP will work in either RGB or YUV colorspace, but doesn’t always mix them very well. Most video codecs are YUV.

That’s been my experience with FCP’s media manger, as well. It’s as good as what you give it. If you’re tapes are logged properly (ncluding reel names!), and you’ve done the all-important “Make Sequence Clips Independant” step it works pretty well.
If all of your media was crash captured using “Capture Now”, and your reel names are spotty, then you’re just SOL.

Can you be more specific? What exactly doesn’t look ‘HD’ about your footage? And how are you monitoring your footage? Are you using a good quality HD monitor?

Try making setting Motion project up as square pixels. I’ve found that this helps solve some problems with horizontal scaling, jaggies, etc. Also, double check that the frame rate of the Motion project matches the frame rate of your FCP timeline.

To use the layer effects, you need to ‘flatten’ each effected layer by merging it with an empty layer below it.
