A client sent me a Photoshop file which I opened and all the layers showed up in the Layers palate. But, when I bring it into Final Cut it doesn’t import with the layers. It just shows up as a standard graphic file, not the usual sequence icon. I even tried re-saving it in Photoshop, but, no luck> Any thoughts?

Check to see if the file has a separate alpha channel. If it does, delete the alpha & then try to import the .psd into FCP.

Thanks Arnie. There was no separate Alpha Channel, but each layer did have an effect applied to the text. I remembered something about this affecting layers in FCP, so I turned off the effects, and the layers returned in FCP. I also added a transparent layer at the bottom. I seem to recall that in order to use effects, you need to add a transparent layer under each existing layer in order for the effects to show up in FCP. Correct?

To use the layer effects, you need to ‘flatten’ each effected layer by merging it with an empty layer below it.
