Get to know the Disk Utility App it comes with every Mac.

The short answer is that if you have 2 Harddrives, I would you use the SSD for The MediaDrive.Its faster.
The ideal reason to have that for the SSD is so media is optimized for the edit.

Also, beside the being unrendered ProRes422 is not as clean as ProResHQ or ProRes4444
Are you on FCP7?
If you are working on a timeline and the codec on the timeline is displaying what the image looks like compressed at ProRes422 that is not the best choice.

he best thing to do to avoid the Rolling Shutter issues is to do slow camera movements.
Avoid fast pans and tilts, the CMOS sensors don’t work well with fast movements.

You can also,
use the Rolling Shutter Plugin to adjust any footage already shot.

Edit all in ProRes HQ, universal and easy on the machine. If you want to organize your footage, make a bin for the all the XDCam footage, and one for the DSLR stuff.

Yes, if you want more information choose a ProRes HQ or ProRes 4444 (best for animation) if FCP 7 is installed. ProRes 4444 clips are Huge files.

PSD’s open as PS seq’s in FCP, the have all the layers intact and you are supposed to use them as sequences. You can use the layers all in tact within the sequence. Also, you copy and paste from that sequence into your main edit if you want. This is what PSD do when imported into FCP.

Yes, Convert the H.264 footage using the Canon E1 plugin,Mpeg Streamclip or Compressor.

HDMI is for monitoring, to ingest the media you just pull the data from cards intact copy the DCIM folder
onto a harddrive and convert from there.

The AF100 looks very intriguing, its a smaller sensor than the Canon products.
Still a great range of Lenses to use and less focus issues, with smaller sensors.
The body of a Camcorder with similar Lenses, that what a lot of people want.

Wait till the first batch of people play around. or Rent.

Nikon…..still not up to par. Canon is still on Top. Wait till April, see if anything interesting comes.

Stick to FCP unless you have a high end machine. The Native H.264 is a new feature and still requires
top notch Graphics Card. If you are on a laptop, transcode to ProRes and you will have alot easier edit.

I agree with Rich, Premier Pro CS5 is great to edit native H.264, but you should work with what you have.
