Putting source video files on internal drive (NOT OS drive)

one drive is for the OS, the other is the media drive.
not 1 drive portioned.

Your answer has confused me a little- how can you portion a hard drive to be solid state and a standard SATA? Surely it HAS to be two separate hard drives?

Get to know the Disk Utility App it comes with every Mac.

The short answer is that if you have 2 Harddrives, I would you use the SSD for The MediaDrive.Its faster.
The ideal reason to have that for the SSD is so media is optimized for the edit.

Sorry I dont think your logic follows though, I know Disk Utility very well, – I understand what portioning is, assuming that its just a synonym in this case for partitioning. In which case there’s no such thing as a drive which has two partitions, one of which is SS and one of which isnt. Or have I missed something?

Forget about partitions, i was saying to partition.

The answer to you original question is:
if you can place source video files on an internal drive.

My answer is:
yes, you can as long as its separate from the boot drive or OS drive running your apps.

meaning you must have 2 internal drives, to make this easier on your machine.

I would use the second drive for media only.

Sorry Arvin those to are just confusing each other and you.

I dont thing they understood that your computer has 2 separate internal drives one solid state and one regular spinning drive.

Having the OS and Apps on the solid state drive and keeping the media that you are editing on the second internal drive is just fine. You just don’t want to be editing media from the same physical drive your OS is on. Your drives are physically separate so its fine.
