Just copy and paste the timeline into a SD timeline, then try again.
this should work.
worst case export the timeline bring it backinto FCP and then use it as a whole clip>print to video

its not worth buying off brand, because they end up not lasting as long or dont communicate with the camera. So you will not see the time remaining, amount of shutter clicks, etc.

B and H sells the Canon LP-E6 Batteries for 59$ and ships anywhere in the US tax free.

I have tried to use off brand and never had good results.

Buy the 7D body only, and get 24-70mm 2.8 (great lens) or even the 16-35mm 2.8 cost the same as the camera. Great investments. you will enjoy them more than the kit lens. Also, consider buying used lens or even nikon lens, but you will need an adapter.

You can always start with the 50mm 1.8 for $99
then Rent the great lenses for cheap!

Just make sure to turn the LiveView off if your not using it to shoot.
The LCD usually gave me an issue when i had overheating issues.
Canon also had a firmware update to address the issue too.

Been a longtime since i have seen any issues.

Not ideal, but you can also use QT to do a screen record. (much cleaner)
DV+indoor flourescents+shooting an LCD= not so great.

Point the camera at the screen and adjust you shutter,

Shooting DSLR and shooting with an HDV camera is not going to give you the same colors.

Canon 7D:4:2:2 color space

Canon XHA1 (HDV) 4:2:0

Transcode all of your footage to ProRes 4:2:2 HQ

Cleaner than LT, (I use LT alot) when you capture HDV its a crazy codec that has be adapted to more over years. Its just not great to work with and is highly compressed.

H.264 is a finishing codec, when you edit/work with it. Its like eating a candybar with the wrapper on.

When you transcode to ProRes, you will open up the file and optimize it for editing.
All that info is stored in the original H.264 file, just zipped up and not as easy on your machine.

*if you are working with just 1 single H.264 clip you may not notice as much.

You can use the H.264 but when you bring it in to FCP it will need to render constantly.

If you have shot with the 7D just once or twice, you are missing the experience.
DSLR cameras have many benefits :

Smaller and more mobile
Not intimidating to the public-catch more candid shots.
You have many audio solutions, even use separate audio and Jam sync in post.
Wide Array of Lens-Ultra Wide to Fisheye to Zoom
Easier to mount, many rigs and stabilizers available

I think Rich covered alot of the other stuff.

-Its a different way of thinking, so learning to adapt to it will help you learn the next of gen of prosumer cameras.

Forget about partitions, i was saying to partition.

The answer to you original question is:
if you can place source video files on an internal drive.

My answer is:
yes, you can as long as its separate from the boot drive or OS drive running your apps.

meaning you must have 2 internal drives, to make this easier on your machine.

I would use the second drive for media only.
