The Audio transitions can be found in the Effects Panel and not in the Effect Controls Panel.
There should be a crossfade bin with three cross fades.

No preview on screen while capturing or no picture captured at all?

There is no preview in 5.5 while capturing hdv but there is a fix.

Close Premiere Pro.
Copy the mc_dec_mp2v.dll file from C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5\Plibs and paste it in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5

Restart Premiere Pro.

AME is a standalone. So if you want to surf while AME is encoding no problem.

You might want to consider using the option Save a copy (to another disk) as Auto Save overwrites itself after a number of times.
