Also, instead of removing that problem file you could just compress it and delete the original, this way it will be skipped and marked as missing. You can add it back in later.

The best way to do this is to go to File > Dependencies > Collect Files. choose All Files and then select a location. It should collect all of the files into the same place mad links should update to the new location. The easiest way to test this is to put the files on an external drive and then open the project under a different user account to check.

If collect files is not working it may be that you have a corrupt file or a permissions issue. Try running a disk utility on your hard drive to fix any permissions. If collect files stops suddenly, try to figure out which file it was attempting to save when it crashed. You can watch the progress to figure it out.

September 28, 2017 at 6:17 am in reply to: camera settings/match cinema 4d

It looks like you may have more than one camera in C4D. To make sure the correct camera is active, click on the View through Camera button in the Object Manager in C4D.

When you are in AE there’s no need to extract the camera as the Cineware effect should have taken care of that. But you may need to check that you have the Cinema 4D camera selected in the Cineware effect.

To help me figure out your issue can you please upload screenshots of the Object manager in C4D and the Cineware effect and timeline in AE? Thanks

    cheers,

You can create a Source Text preset, but as well as saving the character and paragraph attributes, it will also save the text content. This means it will replace your text too. Lots of us have requested that we’d like a way to separate the character and paragraph attributes from the text content so this can be done more easily. Please add your voice to the list ☺

December 11, 2014 at 7:44 am in reply to: convert a 3d layer’s orientation to rotation

    Hi there,

I wanted to smooth some Orientation keyframes.

I couldn’t get Dan’s script working on mine for the same reason – baked keyframes from the 3D Camera Tracker. I’m no good with scripts (dyslexia makes it impossible – eel that’s my excuse!) but I figured out an analogue method for converting them in AE CC.

Export the comp to Cinema 4D – File > Export Cinema 4D.
Import the C4D file that you created into the AE project, drag it into your comp.
In Cineware, at the bottom in the Cineware Scene Data section, click on the Extract
This will extract the camera from the C4D file.

As C4D does not have an Orientation property it uses Rotation for the animation.

Now you can use the smooth expression on the keyframes to smooth out what was originally Orientation keyframes.

This could be done with expressions or scripts but sometimes in the middle of a job I don’t have time to work it out so go for the quickest, dirtiest solution.

    Hope this helps,

    cheers,

    Angie

April 21, 2014 at 12:41 pm in reply to: Puppet Pin relocate original position

    Hi there,

the only way to do this is to copy the keframes for the pin you want to move, then delete the pin. Create a new pin where you want it to be and then paste the old keyframes into the new pin. this way it will animate the same points but using a new “source position.

    hope this helps 🙂

June 6, 2012 at 11:07 am in reply to: No Audio in After Effects Composition.

    Hi there,

Have you checked the Audio Hardware Preferences in AE? It may be that AE is automatically sending the audio to an installed device that you are not using? Try changing the Default Device menu to Built-in Output and testing it on the built in speakers on your system.

    Hope this helps

    Hi there,

I have a course that covers some techniques for rotoscoping in After Effects. You can check out some free movies from it here to see if it can help you. All the unlocked movies are hyperlinked and underlined. Click on the ones highlighted in black to watch free.

May 10, 2012 at 8:22 am in reply to: Rotoscope/Paintbrush question

    Hi there,

I feel your pain, I’d love to be able to paint directly in the comp panel too.

As a workaround you can duplicate a copy of your video and use that to paint on instead of using a solid layer. Double-click it to open it in the Layer Panel and choose RGBA as the target chaneels. Paint away.

To see your comp update as you paint, go to View > New Viewer. Place the two viewers side by side. In one select the comp panel and lock it. In the other select the Layer panel, it should also be locked. This way you can paint in the Layer panel and see your comp panel update simultaneously.

All workarounds but they help I hope 🙂

    cheers,

    Hi there,

Good advice from the guys regarding Particular. You may find that Trapcode Form is easier to set up for this kind of animation. There’s a tutorial here on Red Giant TV that shows how to create particles from text using Form. I hope this helps.
