Rotobrush may be a better option to start off with? Get a rough selection this way.
Then you could also try Layer > Autotrace to create masks from the Alpha created by Rotobrush, make sure it’s set to Trace entire work area.
Finally add Refine Matte effect to add motion Blur, smoothing etc.

Hi there,
The reason there is no motion blur is that the layers are not moving, the camera is the one creating the movement. Layers will only create motion blur when they actually move or scale over time. If you want to add motion blur to this comp you’ll have to create an adjustment layer and apply “CC Force motion Blur”effect to it. Or the excellent-quality “Reelsmart Motion Blur” from Revision FX.

Just to add to Roland’s good suggestion to use Displacement Maps;
To make the star, to use as a displacement map, create a solid layer and then use the Star Mask tool to create a feathered mask. Precompose this and use it as your displacement map. to create the stripes I’d suggest using the Venetian Blinds transition effect on a yellow solid, though there are always dozens of ways to “skin a cat” in After Effects.

Hi there,
Have you checked the permissions on the disk you are running it on? Open Disk Utility and run a permissions check to find out if there are any issues there and also make sure you follow this advice;
Mac OSX Only: Please make sure that all Sharing & Permission privileges for the plug-in’s Preset folder and all .ffx files are changed to “Read & Write” for all Administrators and Users on the system. The permissions should not be set to “Read Only.”

Hi there,
The easiest way is to use Parenting. Set up one tank as the “Leader”, create the animation you want it to follow. Position all the other tanks where you want them to be at the beginning. Select them all and then, in the Parent menu, choose the “Leader tank”. The others should now all follow the leader. You can add additional movement to the followers to create a slightly less regimented feel if necessary.

When you render, go to the Output module settings and make sure that the Channels menu is set to RGB+Alpha and Millions of Colors +;

Shape layers are strange creatures, but endearing all the same! 😉
You may not have noticed that with Shape Layers there are 2 sets of Transform properties. The Pan Behind tool will move the Anchor Point of the layer but it sounds like you want to move the Anchor Point of the shape. to do this, open the Layer, go into Contents > Rectanagle 1 > Transform: Rectangle 1 > Anchor Point. Use these controls to adjust the AP and you should be OK.
