Also, Zaxwerks do a great selection of tools that enable you to do a lot of work traditionally done in 3D applications directly in After Effects. For somebody who wants to include 3D in their motion graphics, without attempting the steep learning curve of a dedicated 3D app, these are real gems!
I pretty sure 3D Warp will also give you what you’re after. You can create a sphere from your layer and then use a bump map to create the cling-film texture on the surface. Check out the free demo version first to see if it’ll give you what you need;
