Unfortunately, you have to pay for a de-noiser. Neat video supposedly makes a very good one.
But the best way is to avoid it in camera, which I realize (along with shooting in many low light situations where it was beyond my control) may not always be possible.
I like the look of noise when you make the video black and white and increase the contrast on Canon DSLRs and Vixias. If that’s an option for your video, you could just go with it and make it look more like film grain.

I went with an older model that should arrive in a few days. The reviews were pretty good, it takes SD cards, you don’t have to turn it sideways (I believe), and the battery lasts about 2 hours.

Pluraleyes is the standard for most people. I use it and it’s very effective. But alternative is to slate it as you say and synch up the wave forms (I usually try to get audio in camera as well so I can refer to it).

It’s just having objects in the foreground out of focus with the help of a long lens.

It looks like just a lot of words rotating, some with the opacity down, and zooming towards the camera. You could probably do this in Vegas alone or NewBlue Titler, though it might be tedious to do animate every word one at a time. I wouldn’t know about how to create it in After Effects, though.

I’ve used one of the waterproof Kodak ones similar to this before and considered it. Maybe I’ll get it. There’s always a chance my mom will press a button that will mess up a video and I’ll be in no position to help her.
Edit: I’m reading a few negative things about it, though. No AC adapter included, the lens must be moved to the side, and the battery only lasts for 30 minutes. All things that are sure to fail my mom. The video quality looks good, though, and the audio is fine.

Thanks. I’m still figuring out how to get the finished video, though. It’s all a green picture so far. I saved it and it still doesn’t play.

If you link your YouTube channel to Google+, you’ll like YouTube a lot less in general. I hate the integration of Google+, which they somehow managed to make even worse by making the ability to find comments on your channel even more obscure and bug filled, though they finally reverted back to the less bad option that they had already just put in place.

I realize your footage has probably already been shot, but I’ve seen lots of old video cameras at thrift stores like Goodwill. If I really wanted footage like that, I’d get one of those cameras (and the appropriate deck to convert the footage to digital).
