A colleague overseas says he uses one editing app that has a one button feature to sync video with external sound (in his case sound recorded on an iPhone and lavalier) with video

I use the probably old fashioned method of clapping my hands in shot and syncing the spike in sound to the video

    Anyone got better ways?

Am I missing a trick here?

Will Vegas one day offer this feature?

The best app to use for syncing multiple audio/video tracks is “Pluraleyes”
It listens to the audio on each of your clips and matches them up. It works great.

Pluraleyes is the standard for most people. I use it and it’s very effective. But alternative is to slate it as you say and synch up the wave forms (I usually try to get audio in camera as well so I can refer to it).

One thing to remember if you create a slate slap…
Making the slap too loud can create a portion of your audio louder than anything else which might make the rest of the audio waveform quite low depending on how you have your audio set up with to begin with.

What I’ve been doing is to just drag the good audio file onto the timeline below the camera audio, just roughly aligning the waveforms of the two. Then, I select the good audio, press “play” and then just nudge the audio left or right (1 or 3) until the echo goes away.

    Pretty quick.
