Split the beginning and end of the section you want deleted, hit delete, and that’s all there is to it. You can put as many markers as you want by pressing “M” on the timeline, but the way you’re asking makes it sound like you may be getting at something else.

What lens you should get depends on what you shoot. One that’s become standard and inexpensive is a 50mm 1.8 prime lens. I use that sometimes, especially in low light. But when I’m moving around a lot and don’t have control of my subject I’ll use slower lenses that can zoom, but being slower makes them cheaper. It’s up to you.
Just keep in mind that zooms are generally more expensive and slower (let in less light/higher f stop). f/1.8 lets in a lot of light. Much more and you may not need it and you’ll be paying more. But lenses that only go as low as f/3.5 are going to give you more noise because they don’t open up as much for more light.
Search online for tests with different lenses to see for yourself.

I hate color banding, which is one of the reasons I’m looking to upgrade to a camera with 422 or 444 chroma sampling and 10 bit color. Of course, the compression and deliver method affects this as well, but at least with a camera like the Panasonic GH4 (which can do 1080p 444 color video down sampled from the 4k video shot using a memory card!) or the Sony FS100 you can get that much higher bit depth and chroma sampling to avoid banding in camera.

Getting a new lens can help dramatically. You can probably find good lenses in your area on craigslist for a low price.

Thanks, I will. I just want to have the right idea and footage. I think I’d make something that shows how versatile, powerful, and easy to use Vegas is, and then show what it’s like to use it on a regular basis, but in the form of kind of a commercial and not an internet tutorial, since there are lots of those.

I agree on everything stated about the problems with cloud software/monthly subscription ransomware nonsense. It’s good for the company that charges you, bad for everyone else. And it’s a shame. If Vegas went that way, I’d switch to something like Premiere or Avid.
I don’t know much about the inner workings at SCS, but I doubt they would go to cloud/subscription software based on what I’ve gleaned from them. Just given that Vegas almost seems like an afterthought to Sony makes it seem like they wouldn’t want to put the resources into changing Vegas so dramatically and rock the boat. Their inertia may pay off for us in that regard.
I’ve been thinking about making some kind of video promoting Vegas for video editors. I think it’s a shame that Sony doesn’t put more effort into promoting it, because the lack of popular use means that companies that make plugins don’t put out as many since they don’t sell that well.
