Is there any other info on it? I’d like to think optimistically that if Sony isn’t just releasing this one a year after 12 that they’re actually trying to get it bug free and with good features at launch.

I wonder what will downsample the 4k, 8 bit, 420 footage to 1080p, 10 bit, 444 footage, as I’ve read on EOSHD can be done with this camera. That’s the workflow challenge I’m wondering about. And then, of course, grading 444 footage, which I’d probably have to get software for, like Davinci Resolve.

I do plan to edit on proxies with GH4 footage, but I can ignore the author’s recommendations, then.

And Blender’s free, so I can always try that in my free time, though I won’t have much.

March 17, 2014 at 5:02 pm in reply to: If I don’t want After Effects, what are my options for 3d modeling programs?Well, what Blender does, I guess. I’d like to have some knowledge of 3D animation. Rather than run through a bunch of ideas for little things I’d like to learn, basically 3D modeling and text/logos.
In one video (though I probably can’t put in the time to learn animation quickly enough before the deadline), I’m making a video showing a company touring across the country. Rather than use stock plane footage, which is shot on under powered cameras, I might want to create a plane animation from an angle I choose and make it a little stylized. That’s just one example.
Here’s a previous version of the video I did just using Vegas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKKahFI3ihM

Audacity works well (look up Bill Meyers’ video on how to remove it using audacity), and you can also use the Track EQ plugin and drag down the “4” in the plugin window until you get the right amount of hum removal without affecting the other sound too much.

You can pre-order the GH4 now, for $1700. So long, Canon.

I don’t know of a way to have it set on every project, but you can do it more quickly by doing it on one event, copying that event, then highlighting all the events you want to disable resample on, right click one of them, and select “Paste Event Attributes”, and it will disable it on all of them.
Keep in mind this will copy all event properties you’ve changed, so if your first event has a different playback speed than another one, it will alter that and add plugins you have on your first one like color corrector.

Are you sure Magic Lantern lets you shoot RAW on a t3i? I thought that was only for the 5D. I have Magic Lantern on my t3i and never noticed a RAW shooting option.
My understanding is that, no, Vegas can’t just take RAW video since it’s treated as a series of pictures with the unmarried elements (such as white balance and exposure) that have to be converted into something first that Vegas can use.

I really think on things like this that if we don’t have the attitude of, “We’ll make it happen,” we can’t count on anything happening. Somehow us Vegas users should put pressure on Sony to do a better job of things like this, because Vegas is a great piece of software, but it’s stuff like this that makes it understandable why it’s not used anywhere near as much as Final Cut or Premiere.
Pressure doesn’t have to mean just emailing them. I day dream about making some kind of rogue ad campaign that doesn’t exactly just advertise Vegas, but puts in a dramatic or entertaining series of videos what kind of changes we need to Vegas and what would attract people to it. Get lots of people watching entertaining videos, get more attention to Vegas, get Sony to realize people have a big potential customer base. Divide and conquer.
