Activity Forums VEGAS Pro What will I need to edit 4k video and downsampled 1080p 4:4:4 video from the Panasonic GH4?

    Hi Angelo,
The specs look awesome. Regarding editing- I would get some footage before you buy. Bring an SD card into the store if you have to, then you can test your workflow. BTW-I was able to do some basic 4K editing (cuts, fades, wipes)on a project with the JVC GY-HMQ10U. It works a bit differently in that it records four 1080 streams to 4 separate SD cards. The project properties in SVP12 were 4K and the footage was on 4 different tracks, each pan cropped to its own quarter of the 4K frame. SVP 12 was sluggish at the time, but that was over a year ago.

    Good idea, I’ll try that.

You can pre-order the GH4 now, for $1700. So long, Canon.

    Hey Angelo,
You may also want to check the Sony FDR AX100. I know they are bundling SVP 12 free with it’s bigger brother (the FDR AX1)
The AX100 specs list the same codec ,XAVC-S, and it has some pretty cool features for under $2K. It would be a shame to have to convert to an intermediate codec to edit footage from the Lumix GH4.
Also-don’t you think $2K is a bit pricey for the GH4 interface unit? It seems you have to have the unit to get 4:2:2, 10 bit, 4K, and the SDI out.
