What will I need to edit 4k video and downsampled 1080p 4:4:4 video from the Panasonic GH4?
I’m talking about the Panasonic GH4, which can shoot internally to 4k, 4:2:0 color, and then be downsampled to 1080p 4:4:4. The release date hasn’t been announced yet (I believe someone from Panasonic said they expect late April/early May), and the price is $1700.
I don’t want to tempt fate, but I think I’m willing to be a test monkey on this and buy it upon release so I can start using it immediately.
I know I’m going to need software to downsample the footage and to color grade (and probably an upgraded/new computer), so if you guys have ideas or recommendations for that I’d appreciate it.
I’ve always used Canon cameras, but they seem to not want to undercut their cinema cameras and basically want to sit on their laurels for consumer and prosumer options.
So here’s some information on the GH4 that some of you might read and come up with some advice for me. And after I get the camera I’ll make a video of my experience with the camera and the workflow with Sony Vegas.
