  • Eliminating audio hum from camera

Posted by Jane Wielecki on March 15, 2014 at 12:35 pm

    Hello,
I am using Sony Vegas Pro 10 (64 bit) and editing Standard Definition footage from 2005 (PAL 720 x 576). The editing is almost complete. There is a hum in the audio from the camera in a number of sections which I want to eliminate. Is Sound Forge Audio Studio 10 the best tool for this?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Thank you, Jane

I don’t see a noise removal plugin on the features list for Audio Studio but if you can upload a WAV file of one of the sections, we can play with it and let you know the best way to attack the problem.

    Get Audacity (https://audacity.sourceforge.net/)

Render the audio as WAV and do like this:

Audacity works well (look up Bill Meyers’ video on how to remove it using audacity), and you can also use the Track EQ plugin and drag down the “4” in the plugin window until you get the right amount of hum removal without affecting the other sound too much.

You should get a copy of Izotope RX3 noise removal software.

This works unbelievably well, it can take remove noise from single files that have noise in the same frequency bands as the sounds you intended to record.

    Hi Ryan
I downloaded the trial version of Izotope rx3 and I love it. It’s awesome. I’m buying it!
Thank you for advice. Regards, Jane
