Also, techniques for lowering artifacts in low bitrate videos, like blurring, obviously aren’t suitable for the high bitrate version.
Such is life.

Sharpening will always alter the perception of color, it’s adding contrast to the image.
Also… why not just sharpen in Resolve and simplify your workflow so you don’t have to bring the image back into Premiere?

For vertical displays – I wouldn’t worry until you have specs for these screens and the software that might run them – They may take horizontal video and just be mounted as rotated, they may take fully vertical video, or they may take lettercolumned horizontal video.

These issues need to be manually reviewed by you. It means that some features and effects in Premiere cannot be recreated by Resolve and you have to look at them – they are not system issues.
If you have transparent video, that may be because of an adjustment layer or other feature – it’s been replaced by a slug (solid color clip)
The settings for the 3 way color corrector in Premiere do not convert completely to Resolve, May be best guessing these adjustments and applying them to the clip in question.

About what in the process? Looking up info on the following SDKs will shed more light about what goes on.
AVI codecs are controlled by Windows DirectX system – I think “DirectPlay”
Quicktime has its own system outlined in its SDK
I also believe Premiere’s SDK goes over how codecs can register themselves.

You may need to clear your cache and let the audio files reconform.
If it’s a more annoying bug…. you’re in for a treat:
1. Select one of the affected audio clips in the timeline and right click, select”Audio Channels…”
2. Make sure your channels have a source in the drop down boxes and aren’t set to none.
3. Repeat for every affected clip.
Happens once in a blue moon, no clue why.

[Matt Campbell] “I just wasn’t sure if I should transcode to ProRes before edit, a la the old FCP days to give me the 422 color space vs the 420 of H.264.”
If you do noise reduction you’ll get better mileage from your color grade – noise reduction resamples every pixel. If you go straight from 420 to 422 otherwise, you’re not gaining anything. Really only worth it for heavy banding or other issue solving IMO.
If you have Squeeze, I would just use that as it gives you access to the MainConcept’s advanced settings for H.264.
AME actually has two h.264 codecs – the MainConcepts with a simplified interface (select H.264 as your format) and Quicktime’s internal (Select Quicktime as your format). Disk utility, or disk warrior if you’re on Mac.
Premiere Pro CC? Unfortunately, they use a compressed file format so if it’s damaged…. there is little to no success to recover it.
