[Herb Sevush] “At this point I think FCPX is the only NLE on the market that doesn’t have an easy round-trip relationship with a EFX/GFX program.”

    Which is Avids?

Three point edits work slightly different in FCPX than in other NLEs. This is because X will automatically select the OUT if you select an IN, or it’ll select an IN if you select an OUT. This is normal, don’t worry.

Here’s how you perform a 3 point edit (where the third point is in the timeline):

Place an IN and OUT in your event browser.

Do NOT place any range markers in the timeline.

Place the playhead (or skimmer) at the point where you want the third point of your 3 point edit to be.

Hit whichever edit function you want (connect, insert, overwrite) to lay the clip in from the IN point.

Hold SHIFT down and hit whichever edit function you want to back time the clip from the OUT.

Here’s how you perform a 3 point edit (where the third point is in the event browser):

Place and IN and OUT in your timeline.

Mark and IN or and OUT in the event browser. Or don’t even bother with any markers at all.

Hit your edit function of choice to lay the clip in from the IN point.

Hold SHIFT down and hit whichever edit function you want to back time the clip from the OUT.

    Hope this helps.

Motion hasn’t had a major feature update since 5 came out. It’s definitely due. I’m hoping for some improvements to rigging and publishing, 3D strokes, and I’d love it if they had a planar tracker added. And roundtripping to/from FCPX

    I would like:

    Roundtripping to Motion

Decompose for Archive option in Media Management.

Multiclip collapse or else fix matchframe so you can match to the frame inside the multiclip angle editor or continue hitting matchframe to dive back to clip iterations. In other words hitting matchframe once brings up the multiclip (or compound) in the browser. Hitting it a second time brings up individual source.

Color Correction viewer window that allows shows previous clip, current clip, next clip or allows other inputs to those windows.

Those are some of the big ones.

I’m expecting a significant Motion update to whatever FCPX is going to have.

So, you’re looking for a way to create a reflection that doesn’t use either of those techniques?

Here you go David. I got an advance copy of 10.1 and guess what? It has all those things you’re looking for!!! Here’s a screenshot.

  • Well, according to your picture, UptoLehman2 is a little longer than UptoLehman. This leaves you with a couple options.

You can choose to Replace at Start or End to maintain the same length of your sequence and therefore maintain the same relationship of your connected audio. I suspect however, that you want the new clip to be longer.

What I suggest is you select your music clips (which you’ve chopped up) and enclose them in a secondary storyline (CMD+G). This will drop all the connection points except the first one and so when you replace the UptoLehman clip, the music clips will stay in position relative to each other.

December 5, 2013 at 4:44 pm in reply to: FCPX Cross Dissolve glitch ???

Agree with the others that it might be a corrupt render file. Let me ask you a question, do you have background rendering turned on? Try turning it off. Dissolves are realtime effects anyway and if you’re editing and moving things around, only giving FCPX a second or so at a time to render effects as you work, it’s possible that makes it more likely to have a corrupt render.

December 4, 2013 at 4:48 pm in reply to: FCPX Multicam edit issue (not syncing angles?)

If the camera metadata from the two clips confuses FCPX into thinking that the clips were shot with the same camera, FCP will try to place both clips in the same angle, hence the problem.
