FCP’s audio filters can be applied directly to individual clips as needed … you can copy and paste (or drag and drop) filters with applied settings to multiple target clips, or you can nest an entire track or tracks and then apply a filter to the nest … would that work for you?

You’ll want to check that the plugin is Intel compatible and if an Intel compatible update/version is available. If not then in such circumstances you may want to (temporarily) tell FCP to load using Rosetta (ie running in PPC emulation mode) so as to allow access to the pre-Intel compatible plugin code.

Thats what I would suggest Ed.

Also note that if you are planning on setting up a multiclip edit then you’ll need the clips to match codec as well as frame size and frame rate so I wouldn’t suggest transcoding the 7D footage to ProRes unless you intend to do the same with the EX3 footage … and if you plan to do that then it would be wise to check that you have the necessary storage capacity for the transcoded footage.

Duplicate your sequence (ie make a safety copy)
Select All the video in the sequence
Choose Modify menu > Conform to Sequence

See if that helps shape things up

I agree Tom, I wasn’t suggesting otherwise (unless of course one is using a reverse speed filter, like G Reverse, rather than FCP’s built-in speed controls) … my point was specifically to Jason’s note that he would find the ability to add effects to a portion of a larger clip useful, and I was explaining how he could achieve that without splitting the clip

I would use this in other applications to add an effect to a specific part of a clip…it would be convenient.

If you want to add an effect only to a specific part of a clip then you should use the range select tool (ggg) … click and drag to select the range, then add your effect to the selection

I’m not absolutely certain of this, as I neither have nor use Final Cut Express (FCE), but I think when capturing HDV with FCE is always transcodes on capture to Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC). If that is the case, and if you are working in an HDV timeline in FCP, then your system may be struggling with the realtime transcode for AIC (source) to HDV (sequence) settings for playback.

Just to be sure of the formats details, can you select one of these problem clips and press Cmd-9 (thats the shortcut for Edit menu > Item Properties > Format) then list for us all the info displayed. Also, select your sequence and press Cmd-zero (thats the shortcut for Sequence menu >Settings) and again, list for us all the info displayed.

you may have to remap your OS X “spaces” functionality to make this work for you
