August 16, 2010 at 12:41 pm in reply to: XDCam EX problems with transfer

    Hey Jason

If Clip Browser recognizes them then XDCAM Transfer should too. Drop each reconstructed BPAV folder into it’s own individual parent folder eg (Card_1, Card_2, Card_3 etc) and then point XDCAM Transfer at the parent folders (or you can use FCP’s built in Log and Transfer tool if you also install the Sony XDCAM EX Log and Transfer plugin, PDZK-LT1, currently at version 1.2) . If this still isn’t working then use Clip Browser to create all new BPAV folders for the contained MP4 media and use these new BPAV folders instead of your manually reconstructed ones.

    Hope it helps

Sounds like footage from a Sony HDV camera recorded direct to disc … try downloading and installing Sony’s Recording Uint plugin for Log and Transfer, so that you may be able to access the files using FCP’s built in Log and Transfer interface

maybe CHV’s filmstrip 3d or similar

maybe looks too clean for what you want tho … could you not fashion something out of the built in Bad TV effect? or this : https://library.creativecow.net/articles/smith_stephen/bad_tv.php ?

Try giving it a “poke” (Video Filters > Distort > Poke) … but I’m guessing it won’t be too pretty even with some correction

August 2, 2010 at 1:59 pm in reply to: Swap in FCP

    Hi Faizal

If you first select and begin to drag a clip and then hold down the Option Key you can perform a Swap Edit. (Note that the cursor will change accordingly to show a swap edit will be performed).
If you already hold down the option before you perform the select and drag move, and keep the option key depressed whilst placing the clip, then you will perform an Insert Edit with a duplicate of the selected clip. (Note the cursor will show that an Insert Edit will be performed).
Or again as above, if you already hold down the option before you perform the select and drag move and then release the option key before placing the clip, then you will perform an Overwrite Edit with a duplicate of the selected clip. (Again note that the cursor will show that an Overwrite Edit will be performed).

    Hope it helps

[Jack Rusak] “Example, is it possible to set up a single display for source and canvas and toggle with one key.”

No, afraid not Jack, at least not exactly … but where theres a will there’s a way.

Simply use the “Two Up” window arrangement (Window menu > Arrange > Two Up) as a starting point (or whichever arrangement you prefer) then drag the viewer window so that it covers the same space as the canvas window. Rearrange your other windows to suit your preference (maybe add the Audio Mixer window or whatever you need) … now you can toggle between Canvas and Viewer with the “Q” key. Save the custom arrangement using the Window menu > Arrange > Save Window Layout command, and give it a suitable name (like “One Up”) and then you can invoke it as and when needed.

August 1, 2010 at 7:51 am in reply to: FCP interface gray

Nope .. no hacks for this. Last time I looked the interface was built up of multiple individual parts, each with the color dictated individually by that part … no single global value which controls the color throughout the interface (if there were, then I expect Apple would already have offered this option).

  • Excellent find … and for the do-it-yourself types there is always something like this:
    https://www.commell.com.tw/Product/Peripheral/PCI%20Express%20mini%20card/MPX-3132.HTM

You can use it to replace the airport card in your iMac/MBP/Mac Mini etc (and use a usb wifi solution if needed instead).

Haven’t had need myself but others use it successfully.

You might want to check that you don’t already have FCP open in a different user account on your computer, as that can throw up an ‘already in use’ error (not sure if is the same error tho).

July 25, 2010 at 2:45 am in reply to: XDCAM codecin FC7 vs FC6

[fred kaplan] “Maybe I need to ask what version of Final Cut editors are using before I hand over the files”

Fred, checking these kind of details ahead of time is always a god idea. Codec compatibility is never something you should take for granted. That said, the FCP 7 codecs for XDCAM are the same as used for FCP 6 so it’s likely the issue was user error of some kind at the client end.
    Hope it helps
