mpeg transport stream
Hi,
My indie client gave me a drive with his footage in folders marked HVR. These contain many files with .IDX extensions (Unix) and M2T extensions, MPEG Transport stream.
Do I need to convert the M2T files to QT via Mpeg streamclip (or…??? app???). Can they be cut natively? FCP 7 doesn’t seem to import them as such.Finished product to be delivered as uncompressed file (or best quality compressed) for DVD house to burn to Blu Ray. I’m working on Mac Pro quad, 6 gigs RAM, 2.66ghz, FCP 7.
Client is not tech savvy… no help there.
I’m only used to working with .mov QT files. Thanks for your help. -

Sounds like footage from a Sony HDV camera recorded direct to disc … try downloading and installing Sony’s Recording Uint plugin for Log and Transfer, so that you may be able to access the files using FCP’s built in Log and Transfer interface

You can’t edit natively from mpeg2 transport streams which is what m2t files are. .idx is likely to be some sort of index metadata file for each m2t file at a guess.
