XDCAM codecin FC7 vs FC6
I shot some footage using a Sony EX3 1080 30p. The footage is 1/2 of a stop over exposed. My client is editing it another city is seeing compression lines. The client using Final Cut 6, believes that this is due to the exposure. I am not seeing the lines on my computer or on a video monitor with Final Cut 7 system. Could this be due to the older xdcam in FC6?

He should not be seeing compression artifacts if it is raw footage. Did you compress it for him before you sent it?

Thanks for the response Ron,
I sent a Hard Drive with the BPAV directory. The client is now saying the artifacts are gone. Other than being pleased that the problem is resolved. I am always hoping to learn something. Maybe I need to ask what version of Final Cut editors are using before I hand over the files, or maybe not

Fred, checking these kind of details ahead of time is always a god idea. Codec compatibility is never something you should take for granted. That said, the FCP 7 codecs for XDCAM are the same as used for FCP 6 so it’s likely the issue was user error of some kind at the client end.
