essentially it will show you how and where to usethe Media Manager tool to create a new Online version of your editsfrom your Offline timeline and upgrade your clips to full Online resolution.

however, as you mention your ramps and FX, its worth noting that there are known issues with the Media Manager tool, particularly with edits containg speed adjustments. You will save alot of time using Media Manager, but you might have to go back in and fix your speed ramps after the upgrade.

you’re right Walter, it is full of newbies and they do ask the same questions over and over, but they need help too … and don’t be too quick to dismiss it either.
there’s a wealth of professional knowledge and experience on the Apple forum, and for anyone asking “what other forums are out there?” then its well worth a visit.

having said that, whilst I’ll hang out there answering questions when and if I can, if I have a question of my own then I ask it here 🙂

I appreciate that given a choice most would prefer to avoid the potential for trouble caused by installing such invasive software, and reasonably so due to the limited excuses for such an installation. However, in large corporate environments broad policies are often put in place which do not take into account production work happening on desktop Mac’s/PC’s. Unfortunately these policies are usually backed up by their legal departments, which leaves the users in an inflexible situation.

In our case, we have gone ahead and installed Norton Antivirus but blocked the scanning of all media drives, and blocked all automatic updates other than virus definitions (auto update once a week at 2am). I’m happy to report that we have existed very happily with this situation. We’ve had no dropped frames or any incompatability issues.

whats happening is FCP is seeking a t/c reference which the PDW1500 can’t give
seems the only solution is to use Print to Video

the only method to do this is to use “Paste Attributes” (Option-V)

it’s great for audio. so much better! (by the way, can’t rememeber if i said this before but, turn on ‘record audio keyframes’ if you want to ride the levels). levels, mute, solo all much quicker to handle now.

regarding the tascam’s transport controls. well … great for showing clients an edit, but i would very rarely use them whilst editing. (just doesn’t make sense to move my hands over to the tascam when they’re already on the keyboard/mouse/pen.)

i do like the jog wheel, but i’d like it more if the shuttle button worked. if they added a working mark in, mark out, and a ‘home’ key then that would help too.

another common way to bring in image sequences is to use QT Pro:
File > Open Image Sequence… (locate the first image of your image sequence)
File > Export… (to the codec with which you will be editing)

… and then import the exported clip to FCP.

sure you can Joseph

first select your ripple edit tool (press ‘rr’) then Command-Click the edit (in the same way you would have Shift-Clicked with Avid)
then you can use the usual trim methods to perform the edit.

one thing to be aware of is of course you don’t want to have ‘Linking’ turned on when you do this (that might be why you appeared to only be able to edit one side or the other)
