If you want to assemble the elements and composit them on the timeline, then no problem.
If you want to do the cutting and masking then FCP’s tools may not be your perfect partner.
You might want to look at AE and/or Combustion.

well, you could use Apple-Option-F which match frames frames to the original source clip … same same but different.

Guys, from my experience, the Luma shift is a known bug in FCP , not a BMD issue.
The problem is with the Range Check overlay (Control Z) … best bet is to turn it off.

Outrageous really … a tool specifically included to indicate bad levels actually causing your levels to shift if you turn it on!

I’m sure no-one need telling but … use proper scopes when you’re color correcting.

    Hope it helps

    I know, Kurt, I know

I guess I’ve been in Hong Kong too long … here it is considered good manners too suggest someone may be wrong by any means other than saying so!
My interpretation of Jerry’s request was a method by which he could see the timecode of the timeline, hence my suggestion of nesting first, then using the TC Reader. Nothing wrong with your suggestion, it just seemd a little long-winded.

If my interpretation is wrong it wouldn’t be the first time and sure won’t be the last!

    Best Regards

    Jerry

the TC Reader is reading the source timecodes of thge clips, not the master timcode from the timeline
as Kurt suggested, Select All (Cmd A), Nest Sequence (Option C) then apply the TC Reader Filter to the nested sequence … that should read and display the TC from the edits timeline as opposed to the TC from the clips.

    Cheers

not FCP specific … would be just as functional with a Mac based Avid
but in Mac OS X 10.4 you can always select a word right click and choose Look Up in Dictionary.

i’d second Lyrics PanZoom filter or check out Moving Pictures Stage Tools
also, if you’re using the Final Cut Studio/Production bundle then you might want to check out using Motion for this … lots of control, I’ve had some very nice results from this.
