  • Trouble with Time Code plug in?

Posted by Jerry Jones on October 29, 2005 at 5:46 am

I’m having trouble getting my time code plug in to work — maybe I’m doing something wrong.

I have around two hours of clips strung together — from a wide variety of sources (all MiniDV clips plus some text plugs for identifiers).

I am trying to create a timecode on this entire project — from beginning to end — so my client can easily note locations, etc.

However, when I select all and place this plugin on my project, it is not giving me the correct time, as compared to my timeline in Final Cut Pro 5. In fact, it seems to be giving me a goofy mix of time code. On one clip towards the front, it can have a higher time than another clip later in the project.

    What am I doing wrong?

All I’m needing is a simple timecode stamp (running) that starts at 00 at beginning and runs the full 2 hours.

What time code plug in are most of you using? And what am I doing wrong?

    Thanks for your kind reply.

[Jerry Jones] “I am trying to create a timecode on this entire project — from beginning to end — so my client can easily note locations, etc.”

    1) create a new sequence with same settings as your edited sequence
    2) drop edited sequence onto V1 of new sequence
    3) drop TC generator filter onto V1
    4) option-doubleClick V1 to load it into player
    5) on filter tab of player adjust settings of TC generator as needed

    good luck,

    Jerry

the TC Reader is reading the source timecodes of thge clips, not the master timcode from the timeline
as Kurt suggested, Select All (Cmd A), Nest Sequence (Option C) then apply the TC Reader Filter to the nested sequence … that should read and display the TC from the edits timeline as opposed to the TC from the clips.

    Cheers

[Andy Mees] “hen apply the TC Reader Filter to the nested sequence … “

    note:

    TC Reader vers. TC generator
    are two different plugins

    I know, Kurt, I know

I guess I’ve been in Hong Kong too long … here it is considered good manners too suggest someone may be wrong by any means other than saying so!
My interpretation of Jerry’s request was a method by which he could see the timecode of the timeline, hence my suggestion of nesting first, then using the TC Reader. Nothing wrong with your suggestion, it just seemd a little long-winded.

If my interpretation is wrong it wouldn’t be the first time and sure won’t be the last!

    Best Regards
