why not just nest first and apply the widescreen matte filter to the nest?

going back to your original problem. when you open matte clip in the viewer is the alpha channel displayed? (View > Channels > Alpha)

what happens if you open the matte clip into After Effects, does that work?

how will you ever figure this out if you can’t figure out how to use the Search function ?

on a less grumpy note … select the clip in the timeline and press Shift-A, Shift I, Cmd-Option-F, Cmd J, enter the new speed, then press F10

kind of alot of shortcuts there, but what you are doing is:
first marking the you will be replacing, then going to the in-point of that clip, then opening up that clip’s original media in the viewer, adjusting the speed, and finally replacing the clip in timeline with the new speed adjusted version

sounds like your thumbnail cache got confused (corrupted)
deleting that might fix the problem

in its plain vanilla form FCP is not going to be especially suuitable for a “live” production workflow

can (and has) been done though … take a look over at https://www.gallery.co.uk/ , they have some products which will make your life much easier. Picture Ready and VirtualVTR seem especially suitable … and you might want to keep an eye out for Peter Wiggins, a regular here on the Cow. I beleive he has worked with these products

November 22, 2005 at 1:25 am in reply to: XML Import & Open

if you have a valid XML then double clicking should open FCP and initiate an Import > XML…
if thats not happening it may be that your XML file is not “well-formed” (not structured correctly) or that your XML is not associated with FCP (you can use a utilty to change your XML file to an FCP XML file check out these… https://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/18605)

    hope it helps

Sometimes we need to make our videos with a look similar to 8mm projection. Here’s how . . .

[zoltan77] “but until Apple adds the dvcpro 50/HD codecs to pc quicktime, there isn’t much choice”

i’m not sure this is Apple’s prerogative … the license granted to them by Panasonic may not allow them.

November 18, 2005 at 1:37 pm in reply to: imx vtr 8 track audio insert edit

do you have the Audio/Video Settings… > Device Control Presets > Audio Mapping set to 8 channels ?
also you might want to check that your Sequence Settings > Audio Outputs are set for 8 track output and that your audio assignments are correct.

apologies if you’ve already double checked all this stuff

    cheers

November 17, 2005 at 4:17 pm in reply to: Voice Over Feature in FCP

make sure that you’re changing to the correct source and input…
in the VO Tool window just under the Level meter you’ll see a popup menu item labelled “Source” and under that, one labelled “Input”, make sure you adjust those so that your source and input are both pointing to your mic

November 9, 2005 at 12:16 pm in reply to: XDCAM and FCP

    no …

only one real option for direct XDCAM / FCP interface — Telestream’s Flip4Mac MXF Import Component
currently does not read the proxyAV files

    …from Telestream:

I understand that there is as yet no option to import the proxyAV files, correct?
Correct. we will include in an upcoming version that we hope to have out in Q4

Also, no export component … ?
Export is also coming. Targetted for Q1 06

And we can’t see thumbnails of the content, only filenames in the import dialog?
Thumbnails will also be supported in an upcoming version, although I don’t have a target date for that yet

there is also MXFConverter that does support proxyAV but only for XDCAM DV not XDCAM IMX

    hope it helps
