Change speed on a clip without pushing everything back??
Posted by Mark Linthicum on November 26, 2005 at 1:12 amI am wondering if there is a way to change the speed of a clip (like on in the 2nd video layer), without pushing everything back? I constantly have to drag it to the end of the sequence, change the speed and bring it back. it is really a pain!
Is there an easyer way?
Thanks, Mark

November 26, 2005 at 4:19 amhow will you ever figure this out if you can’t figure out how to use the Search function ?
on a less grumpy note … select the clip in the timeline and press Shift-A, Shift I, Cmd-Option-F, Cmd J, enter the new speed, then press F10
kind of alot of shortcuts there, but what you are doing is:
first marking the you will be replacing, then going to the in-point of that clip, then opening up that clip’s original media in the viewer, adjusting the speed, and finally replacing the clip in timeline with the new speed adjusted version -

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

There are the shorcut shown above sure, but I still copy and paste to the end of the timeline, adjust the speed and drop it back up the timeline, it’s better for me as it’s more tactile to grab and etc.

November 27, 2005 at 3:20 amI use a sequence called “work” and I copy my clips I want to speed change into that sequence and leave them there. So if the speed change isn’t quite right you can go back and forth until you have the speed you want.

That’s too funny.
But seriously. If you wanna edit with the big boys, ya gots ta rock with the Replace Edit. It’s often the best way to synch an audio cue with a specific frame of video and other tricks, like the speed trick in the viewer. The other methods of adjusting speed are valid, but I usually go for the fastest and most available to keyboard shortcuts.
