tough call … i’d be inclined to suggest that Final Cut “Pro” adopt all standard professional norms, amongst them would be the -20db line up for tone
if FCE uses -12db then thats all well and good, and if iMovie doesn’t use them at all then I’m not complaining either … but with Pro moniker should come Pro standards.now, having said that, I totally agree that this is waaay down the list of things I’d rather they’d do first.

It sounds like you are saying some of the footage was shot 1080i60 using the SP camera setting, and others shot using the camera’s LP or HQ settings, but you don’t tell which.
So first, please explain how you captured/impoted this footage into FCP.
And second, please confirm the clip item’s properties. Select a clip of each type, and press Cmd-9 and list down the Format settings.Was all this footage shot on thesame camera or different camera’s?
When you play the clips individually, in the Viewer window, do they play correctly?

option + and opion – are a little more targetted, as that combo works specifically on the timeline as opposed to the active window … why not just reassign those hotkeys to something easier?

wrong method.
lay the moving matte as a clip in the timeline, on the video track immediately above the background clip,
now lay the foreground clip on the video track above, so that the matte is sandwiched by the foreground and background clips
now right-click the foreground clip (the uppermost one) and choose Composite Mode > Travel Matte – Luma -

that would suggest you are only shooting in SP mode and consequently only the HDV preset will work.
you need to shoot in HQ 25p if you want the XDCAM HD 35mbps 25p sequence preset to work. -
how about if you open the Audio/Video Settings window, and switch to the Sequence Presets tab … if yu scroll through the list, do you see a Sequence presets for XDCAM HD and Sony XDCAM HD ?

you need to upgrade to version 5.1.2 or greater for full XDCAM HD codec support. otherwise you are limited to using the HDV preset and shooting in “SP” mode for compatability.
if you have already upgraded, make sure you check the “Show All” checkbox in the Easy Setup window, the scroll down all the way to the bottom and you’ll see them.cheers

nice combination. also consider getting a Matrox MXO which will give you some color critical external monitoring options and generally ease your HDV pain.
