We too are an all BMD outfit. Our Multibridge Extreme’s are rock solid now but we did have a multitude of minor issues at the outset that required replacement of some dodgy hardware.
Make sure you have a solid support contract in place with the supplier / systems integrator then you’ll not go wrong.

there are a number of quicktime codec packs for avid available on their website … don’t know if you reinstalled from a previously downloaded and archived installer, or redownloaded from the website (in which case you might have grabbed the wrong one)

hey John

its been done over and over by many users who have used the methods provided to implement their own soultions.
far from rocket science, you just need to know a modicum of scripting.
you just create a folder action that creates an fcp xml file which contains the “pathurl” element that points to the clip dropped in the folder, it then sends an apple event to FCP to import that xml file and drop it in a named project

whats more Apple have even attempted to kick start the FCP developer community by providing the code needed to do all that above and a whole lot more besides.. you can download it for yourself, plus all the developers tools you could possibly need, all for free, from Apples developer site.

or, you can wait, maybe indefinately, maybe not.

Smart Bins are bound to happen sooner or later (or so it seems to me) as in dynamically updating find results folders, but not necessarily “Watch Folders” … watch folders require the folder to know what project is open … and what if you have 2 projects by the same name? fcp has no limitation in that regard … and if you have multiple identically named projects, with multiple identically named bins within … how is the watch folder meant to distinguish what to do then?? its tricky for Apple because their own solution would need to be foolproof (and there are thousands of fools in FCP’s userbase … you can mintor any FCP forum and meet a few quite quickly) … but if you know and control your own environment then you can roll your own solution without too much trouble.

its on its way. no one here who has a firm date is likely to be in a position to tell. Apple have been out and about actively demoing and selling it to the volume users who can make most of it.

one of the many small things Apple hasn’t yet done to improve FCP
over many of the recent FCP upgrades they’ve done a lot to improve FCP with some big ticket items, but have pretty much ignored making additions and improvements to the basic toolset
it seems FCP 6 has only just been introduced, so lets just hope they start working on the smaller stuff to spice up some of the usual point release upgrades … or wow us all with a free upgrade to an overhauled FCP 7 when Leopard ships

fwiw it seems like what you want or need to be using is the “Extend ediit” function .. except it doesn’t work in ripple mode.

Version 2 is the one with these talked about changes. Its not yet available … due around the same time as the XDCAM EX1 is actually released, hopefully sooner but probaly not.

are you monitoring this issue on an reference video monitor or just in the canvas?
as a quick workaround, why not just add a widescreen mask to an upper layer instead? you can crop or mask a color matte, create one in photoshop, or download a widescreen filter generator ( there are a few of them about, including one here )

If you’re used to the standard layout, key-size and feel of an Apple keyboard then you’ll love the logickeyboard offerings .. i’ve used them myself and can vouch for them wholeheartedly

I’ve used the bella keyboads too and i have to say i didn’t like them at all, key size was different than i was used too, and the model i had had the jog/shuttle control that just felt cheap and flimsy (but then i was doing a lot of editing with real industrial strength jog/shuttle controllers so my impressions may be skewed on that). Whatever my own experience, Walter here swears by them so they can’t be that bad.
