  • trying to re-instal DNx (avid) codecs, not working PLEASE HELP

Posted by Todd Reid on September 21, 2007 at 3:10 pm

A few days ago, my iPod caused iTunes to crash my computer and I’ve been having troubles ever since. I went to the Genius Bar at the apple store and they did an “archive and install” of the operating system, telling me that it wouldn’t effect my software.
Well it did, so far I have fixed everything EXCEPT the DNx codec that WAS properly installed on my system. I had SUCCESSFULLY exported and viewed DNx files on my macbook pro MANY times prior to the “archive and install”.

I have downloaded (several times) the AVID codecs for mac, and they are successfully installed on my computer (so they say). I can even see them in /library/quicktime.
When I go to view a DNx export that I’ve seen on my computer many times, it shows as all white. Furthermore, when I go to see if I can export (from fcp), the avid codecs do not show up at all.

I have had to re-install/system upgrade FCS2 in this whole process, I’ve tried installing the codecs many times, repaired permissions, run cocktail.

Can anyone think of why quicktime or FCP is not recognizing these codecs??????

    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

My biggest client requires this codec for delivery and I have been providing it for several projects, so I know its possible.

there are a number of quicktime codec packs for avid available on their website … don’t know if you reinstalled from a previously downloaded and archived installer, or redownloaded from the website (in which case you might have grabbed the wrong one)

    this thread may help

That thread directed me to the correct codec pack.
Even though the AVID site said that I was getting the right one, it wasn’t.
funny thing too, the file that finally fixed it had the same name (exactly) as the one that hadn’t worked all day today.
It came down to which one was intel compatible.
The one I was downloading said it was, but the thread pointed me to a different location on their site and fixed my problem.

THANK YOU for pointing me to it.
I had done a search and didn’t get that thread (maybe I was too impatient and didn’t look down far enough), but anyway…..

FYI-I was on hold with Apple Care, when your post came through, so I was able to fix the problem before they got back on the line with me. Awesome!

    LONG LIVE THE COW!!!!!
