  • Similar effects to Avid’s?(plug in suggestions)

Posted by Peter Dewit on September 28, 2007 at 1:39 pm

I’m transferring a project form an Avid to a FCP using AD. I’m finding lots of the effects that were used in this project didn’t transfer over and don’t seem to have anything similar in FCP. So I’m looking for plug-ins that may be able to supply similar effects. The ones in question are mostly advanced morphing and blurring transitions like Morph, Radial blur, and Volanco.

    any suggestions?

FxFactory has some very cool transitions. Not the same as those, but then this is a different application.

I think CHV does a morph.

Take a look on toolfarm.com to see a good selection of the plug-ins available for FCP.

I was looking at CGM’s package but it’s a tad pricey. Anyone have experience with it?

It’s a very good package of useful filters. Look through the demo movies or download the demo version and try it out.

I’ve used both the morph in Avid and the CHV and CGM morphs in FCP.

You wont get quite as clean a morph out of the CHV or CGM morph as you would with the one that ships with Avid (or used to ship with,, been a few years since on an avid) but they are decent. I find they use a little too much cross-dissolve,, and not quite enough fluid transformation,, but with a little time and patience you can get a nice morph out of them.

Personally, I stuck with the CGM pack (vol3) ’cause it came bundled with some other plug-ins I saw potential for,, but they are both similar.

I think the CGM package is about $180,, and comes with a bunch of other good plugs,, however you can buy the CHV morph collection on its own for about $60.
