The Teranex VC300 is a fantastic piece of kit with an ungodly level of control and excellent results in any number of format and standards conversions. If you have the budget then I can wholeheartedly recommend it. I don’t have experience of the Edirol so can’t offer a direct comparisson, but if you are looking to work with raw DV or HDV inputs and outputs then it may well be the preferable option

are you using TC Reader filter or the TC Generator filter?
where are you applying the filter(s)? to the masterclips, clip instances in the original sequnece, clip instances in the partially duplicated sequence, or to a (trimmed) nest of the original sequneces?

if you are using the TC Reader filter applied to a nest of the original sequence then you should get the result you’re looking for

just to clarify, the option is called “Use the F1-F12 keys to control software features” … and you need to check the box not uncheck it.

hey Wayne, how long is the conform time on an XDCAM HD show that long?

additional to the excellent selects reel method suggested by Mark for handling your imported clips, you should also take note of the new “continuous recording” feature of the F335/F355 XDCAM cameras … that allows you to pause and then continue recording without creating a new clip. for those working with tapeless formats, and looking to be able to imprt otherwise spearate clips as single entities, then this is a great new feature.
hopefully it will be something that will filter down to existing 330/350’s via a firmware upgrade

If you render and “conform” the sequnece in XDCAM HD then you are creating a single (render) file instance of the entire sequence … if you then export a ref. movie of that then you are just creating a movie with a pointer to a single (Long GOP) render file. As i said (guessed) the first file is referenced but subsequent files are then conformed to a single Long GOP file and embeded within the ref. movie …. so yes, thats my point:

the files are being conformed, not referenced … hence ref. movies dont seem support Long GOP formats.

actually Apple already supports arbitrarily extensible file system metadata via its extended attribute APIs in Tiger … it is simply that FCP does not leverage it.
