Hey Hal,
The Main Concept plugin packs are for transcoding your footage to other formats (like WMV) from within Sony’s XDCAM Browser app. You only need to buy this if you need/want this functionality inside your XDCAM Browser app, it’s not required for regular functionality with FCP which work’s perfectly happily with the native capture files when wrapped in a Quicktime Movie container. As Craig notes, you don’t need any other app other than Sony’s free XDCAM Transfer (or their free XDCAM Browser app) to handle that simple rewrap on import procedure.
XDCAM Transfer is rock solid, been using it without issue since somewhere around version 0.5. The newer XDCAM Browser, seems no less reliable.

Just for clarity, I’m guessing Steve probably meant FCP 4 / 4.5 as multicam functionality has been in FCP Classic since version 5.

You might want to try the excellent (and free) FCS Remover utility from Digital Rebellion … it will happily removes FCP X if you ask it too.

You may want to go into the XDCAM Transfer prefs and change the Import Cache location or delete the existing one as you may have a corrupt or unrecognized database at the default location (which is at ~/Library/Application Support/Sony XDCAM Transfer <– delete that folder)

Try making the source w/ effect a compound clip and then freeze the compound clip

No, it only gets too much when you use it in real life too … like walking around your house, when you move from room to room, using it then would be bad.

Sorry Wayne, despite Apple’s affection for animated GUI elements, that doesn’t extend to scrolling timelines. Manually scrolling whilst it plays is probably your best bet.
