Is it possible to keep playhead (cursor) on-screen when playing a clip in the primary storyline? (other than pushing spacebar and restarting the clip – or moving the bar along while the clip is playing – or zooming out)

    Cheers

The reason I want to do this is to watch the audio line at the same time as I listen for possible edit points. I want to visually see if the audio is peaking or needs adjusting in some way at the same time.

Sorry Wayne, despite Apple’s affection for animated GUI elements, that doesn’t extend to scrolling timelines. Manually scrolling whilst it plays is probably your best bet.

I’m responding to a thread from July and I’m not sure if it’s always ‘live’ or becomes live again if I respond, as I’m doing here. Soon find out, I guess…

I’m used to audio applications, such as Wavelab, Logic, etc and am really missing a scrolling timeline in FCPX. I thought there must be a way to have the screen move to keep up with the playhead, but perhaps there’s not. Yet it seems like a feature that would be really useful, so I am surprised at it not being present.

Or am I just working in a non-standard way and everyone else is perfectly happy with things as they are?
I’d be interested to know what you guys think and whether we should be badgering Apple for this feature!
