With the F700 shooting XDCAM HD 50 Mbs VBR 4:2:2 you would use Sony’s XDCAM Transfer to ingest the footage natively … as long as you are running FCP 6.0.3 or above then you already have the natove codec for this format installed.

If you prefer not to work with the native format then you could use any suitable Kona (or Blackmagic) device to capture directly via HD-SDI to a suitable intermediate codec (such as ProRes 422).

The original MXO offers the benefit of connecting via the DVI port and will provide realtime output from your native HD timeline over HD SDI or down-converted to SD-SDI, component or composite … great for ENG output needs. Downside would be that it is output only and requires mains power (but how many feed points have you been at that don;t have power?)

The new MXO2 connects via the ExpressCard slot so you cant connect it at the same time as having your SxS media in the slot … but this device allows both input and output from to most any typical baseband format; it does realtime down-conversion as per the original MXO but also allows up-conversion and cross-conversion. An obvious benefit to ENG applications is that this one can be powered by a standard ENG camera battery.

yep, but be sure to save it all ie the full contents of the card, directory structure and all

you need to download and install the Sony plugin for Apple’s Log and Transfer

iLINK COV affects output from the camera only, not recording … so that setting should not affect anything

What exactly isn’t working then? Press Cmd-Zero to open your sequence’s settings window and confirm that the settings are all as expected. Make sure you have View menu > Video Playback set to Apple Firewire and View > External Video set to All Frames. Then what happens exactly when you choose print to Video?

No … at best you could down sample to 1440×1080 25Mbs CBR (HDV) and then layoff as such to a suitable HDV deck

It can, you just need to set yourself up a preset for it:

In Final Cut Pro menu > Audio / Video Settings window >> Capture Presets tab select any one of the Capture presets and press the Duplicate button.
Then in the Capture Preset Editor window:
Set the Name to “Audio Only” or something meaningful.
Set the Quicktime Video Settings >> Digitizer popup to None
Set the Quicktime Audio Settings >> Device popup to whatever your chosen input device is.

You should be good to go after that
