I am “spec” ing out a new HD workflow for several upcoming broadcast shows.

We are looking at Sony’s XDCam HD422, shooting on Blue-Ray discs.

Is there an FCP or AJA/Kona codec for the new 50Mbit XDCam format? We’d like to capture files, rather than feed out of a deck via HD/SDI.

    MacPro 3.2ghz 8 core, 4 Gbyte RAM, FCP 6.0.3, OS X.5.2
    QT7.4.5, Kona3 (v5.1), Atto FC41-ES, 8TB Custom RAID-striped RAID 3.

With the F700 shooting XDCAM HD 50 Mbs VBR 4:2:2 you would use Sony’s XDCAM Transfer to ingest the footage natively … as long as you are running FCP 6.0.3 or above then you already have the natove codec for this format installed.

If you prefer not to work with the native format then you could use any suitable Kona (or Blackmagic) device to capture directly via HD-SDI to a suitable intermediate codec (such as ProRes 422).

    Hope that helps
