You could download some multicam tutorials at:

    https://www.macprovideo.com/MPV/html/fcp-mastering.html

The multicam section is pretty clean in explaining your options with your footage if you find the manual cryptic. Some people are manual readers and get it, some do better by seeing instructions in a visual way.

What about clicking on the arrange windows button and see if it changes things around. Sometimes your effects tab gets diconnected from the window and the arrange button puts it back in its normal position.

October 26, 2005 at 6:58 pm in reply to: Compressor yields lame results!

Go to the compressor discussions on Apple website. You re not alone in the crappy exports you are getting. First thing, make sure you did not install compressor 2 ontop of Compressor 1 install. The old presets do not work in Compressor 2. Thre is a apple article on how to remove them. Sorry I don’t have the link, as I am not typing this on my mac. You can find the info on the Apple compresor forum.

Also check the actual preset fields selection in compressor. I found coming out of FCP with a self contained QT was lower field and the Compressor fielding preset was set to upper. As stated in this thread, do not use 2 pass VBR it is broken.

October 25, 2005 at 2:45 pm in reply to: iTunes/FCP conflict?

ok Ben & Gary …..I’m wrong, your right 🙂 I know it conflicts if you are doing interviews and sound, but didn’t Steve ask if he could just assemble “lots of MOS footage” …. Isn’t that without sound. Don’t see how that could conflict if there is no audio coming out of FCP.

I know we are splitting hairs and I agree with you all on this. Just run an Ipod next to your edit station and make an edit machine an edit machine, not a multi tasking wonder box.

I’ll still find out what my editor does today and post back. Maybe he had some weird config.

Steve, I just wrote you a long reply about an editor I amd working with today that does just what you want on his older G4. I came into the edit bay and he was jamming with iTunes and FCP 4.5 running at the same time. He was not doing any interviews, just cutting video. I’ll ask him what he does to make sure there is not conflict with iTunes and FCP and post back to you tomorrow. Your G5 2.7 is more than powerful enough to run both at the same time.

[Bob Zelin] “How do you specify new systems that need to be delivered to customers NOW”

Offer them a $50 starbucks card and have them call you back in 4 weeks 🙂 Just kidding Bob. I’m one of those that almost pulled the trigger a few weeks ago to ad a Kona2 to my set up. Sure glad I waited.

There is going to be a transition period where old and new will blend (keeping with the java theme). For those on the fence a few weeks more will not matter. Remeber it took AJA till November last year to release the Kona2 after showing it at NAB. It will probably be a few months more till the new stuff actually gets out to the public. But all of this is speculation, as I’m not sitting in AJA’s shoes.

As you can see PCIE Firewire cards are coming out:
    https://www.computervideogear.com/digital_video_capture_card/siig-pcie-firewire-card.htm

    https://www.aaxeon.com/products/Productdetail.aspx?cate=8&modelno=FWB3414

I think it will be an interesting couple of weeks, then we will be able to make some choices. I know this does not help you as a system intergrator, but time will pass and you will be setting up PCIe left and right.

Have you set up the AJA control panel softwre correctly to match your FCP settings? If not, check that you have the audio routed properly in your setup. Does FCP have an easy set up for BetaSX? I have not edited with it, so I guess I’m not being much help.

2nd give AJA tech support a call.

October 17, 2005 at 5:19 pm in reply to: Another IO (final cut issue)

How full are your video drives? If you drives are full and you are cutting from one clip on the outside of the drive to a clip on the inside of the drive platter, you might experience some drop out.

Have you rendered out your entire sequence?
