    Hello…. again,

noticed a simple problem I’m having-

I am having difficulty playing some sequences in some projects completely, because the audio cuts out. The video plays fine and continues, but the audio output stops. I’ve tried the following–

    – changed from unlimited RT to safe RT back to unlimited and so forth
    – rebooted both FCP, and the g5, and recycled the io, and trashed the preferences
    – closed any additional open sequences and running programs
    – lowered the audio levels on sequences
    – Checked for latest io drivers

Can anyone else suggest something? It is really starting to create delays and aggravation when it comes to client previewing and outputs to tape. Thanks.

Did you “Mix Down” your audio b/4 playback?
I don’t think the volume of your audio would effect playback…

    I think so,

but let’s pretend I’m an idiot so we can be sure. How do I check or perform an audio mixdown?

Select all audio in the timeline and go to:

    Sequence
    Render Only
    Mixdown

I feel your pain. This has been dogging us since we switched to FCP5/IO La on a G-5

The audio just cuts out. During capture, during playback, during editing. Random, frustrating, annoying. It’s not a mixdown fix – this happens with only a single clip in the entire project.

We tried all the usual things, just as you did. Rudy at AJA suggested terminating the Genlock Out on IO. I tried that (with a genlock signal going in, of course) and I tried switching the Control Panel settings between Genlock and Freerun as well.

    Same Audio Cut-Outs.

Rudy also suggested that I had a bum IO box. Any other users’ feedback on this issue would be appreciated so we can figure out why this is happening, fix it, and get back to editing

Does it happen in the same place every time?

Have you tried deleting your render files?

Is the project an upgrade from 4.5?

    Thanks Jeremy:

No, it happens at different places in a clip, and with different clips. Random.

It happens even if there are NO render files. It happens in capture and playback.

And all of the projects originate with FCP 5.0.2.

Have you tried monitoring the audio thought the computer? If it’s okay then I would think it’s the AJA box.

How full are your video drives? If you drives are full and you are cutting from one clip on the outside of the drive to a clip on the inside of the drive platter, you might experience some drop out.

Have you rendered out your entire sequence?

Had the same problem. Moved the dead clips to another track. Problem occurred only on export QT’s and AIFF’s for a while too but not on timeline playback.
