Put a mixer in between your INs/OUTS of the IO. Pod up 1&2 for input, pod up 3&4 for output.

Do you happen to have a Nextel or Xingular phone sitting near your mixer or computer? If you do, did you capture your problem clips with the phone on near you? I know this is a far fetched idea, but I have heard wireless mic type hits on some show recordings while a nextel phone was near the audio booth.
I just love editing and you start to hear the Nextel or Xingular pulsing in the monitor speakers and you turn to the producer and say…you are about to get a call. He looks at me funny and his phone rings 🙂

[Mat @ LaCie] “We have introduced a few weeks ago the 4th generation of d2/Big/Bigger with increased cooling to accomodate 500GB mechanisms.”
There you go, your team learned from all the failures last year that you needed to increase the cooling. My 6 failed units were the 500gig models (two 250GB drives inside one case). Sad to say, I must have been a test bed for your new development ;-(
I don’t think you will be getting any more purhcases from me, as the latest drives you replaced are starting to fail again. I wish you and your company good luck with your new products.

Louis,
In regards to Mat’s comment:
“All d2, Big Disks and Bigger Disks all have thermal foam and aluminum design for heat dissipation.”The d2’s were my problem, so don’t waste your money. Thermal foam and aluminum design for heat dissapation is a pretty bad idea for drive cooling. Probably why most of the new designs have some sort of fan.
Nice to see you monitoring the forums Mat. To bad Lacie could not save my drives before they failed. Hope your drive designs improve in the future.

I would personally buy a G-raid style of drive that actually has a proper fan. The 6 Lacie drives I bought all died within a few months of use. If you feel like taking a chance with your data cause the price is low, then go ahead. I personally would not touch another Lacie product even if it was free….Lacie even sent me a free drive for all the hassles with the drive failures and that one failed! There are a bunch of cow users that have bought vaious Lacie products and not had a problem, so just to balance this out, you could not have a problem if you choose Lacie.

I am looking for the similiar effect. I have Particle Illusion and just found one of the emitter libraries has gun fire emitters. You might hop over to the Particle Illusion forum on the cow or the PI website(www.wondertouch.com) and check out the libraries to see if it fits your needs.

If you are out west, I seem to remember that the west coast PBS feeds all come from the Denver, Colorado station. You might give them a call and see what formats they can handle.

Probably when your computer crashed it was in the middle of compressing one of your sequences. So the file has been named and when you went back to restart the compression export, it sees the same named file and tells you it already exists. You could do two things: check the location and see which file is only a couple of KB as that would be the crashed compression or change the location of the saved files to a new folder and recompress.
BTW, you’d probably make better compressions if you export all your sequences to a self contained QuickTime. ( Compressor 2 has issues with the 2 pas VBR settings and can make some ugly files.) Then close FCP and drag all your files to the batch monitor and select your presets.

Couple of Questions for you:
Which version of FCP?
Which version of Compressor?
Which OS (tiger 10.4.2 or panther 10.3.9)?If these were upgrades did they install on a fresh drive or upgrade from compressor 1 to compressor 2?
Has your friend run all the latest Pro App software updates?
Don’t export your file out of FCP via compressor. Export a self contained QT movie of the timeline first. Close FCP and then fire up compressor. Check to make sure the field setting is set to lower or bottom in all your settings (both compressor and DVDSP).
Do not use VBR 2 pass if your friend has compressor 2. There are issues with these settings. You can jump over to the compressor discussion list on the Apple website and read up on all the problems with Compressor 2. Especially if your friend upgraded from compressor 1 to 2. The version 1 presets do not work with compressor 2.
Just noticed the date of your post…..you probably already solved the issue this weekend…oh well.

Dean,
Thanks for the great breakdown. I’ll be sure to save this for future use.
Question for you or any others doing Multi-cam:
Does your multicam viewer play back without stuttering when previewing 8-bit uncompressed footage? Or are you only using DV footage?
I have stuttering on my multicam clips when previewing. I’m using a 4 drive external SATA raid with a SonnetTempo card.
