Hello there. Stuck here trying to export about 25 sequences (2 1/2hrs total) from FCP 5 (dual 1.25 2gig ram) to compressor for 2 “fast encode” DVDs. At first I was ambitious and tried all 25 at once, after about 7 my comp froze as it tends to do from time to time encoding dvds. So with a quick restart I tried (8-15) to avoid the crash, unfortunately I get an error message “file already exist.” I don’t what file it is talking about. A temp file? Fcp5 or compressor? Renamed things. Put them in a new project. Tried every ghetto work around to try and get it moving overnight. But alas, same problem. Nothing

Probably when your computer crashed it was in the middle of compressing one of your sequences. So the file has been named and when you went back to restart the compression export, it sees the same named file and tells you it already exists. You could do two things: check the location and see which file is only a couple of KB as that would be the crashed compression or change the location of the saved files to a new folder and recompress.

BTW, you’d probably make better compressions if you export all your sequences to a self contained QuickTime. ( Compressor 2 has issues with the 2 pas VBR settings and can make some ugly files.) Then close FCP and drag all your files to the batch monitor and select your presets.

What worked for me was shutting off Norton Anti-Virus.
