Apple wouldn’t be the first company, nor the last, to hamstring Product X in an attempt to protect Product Y and I don’t think ProApps users are at the top of the list in Apple’s planning. IMO the ProApps are a prestige piece for Apple but their big bucks right now are from consumers and they know it. In the past two years there hasn’t been a significant update to FCS 2, but there have been two AppleTVs, two iPhones (the development of which was top priority at Apple even delaying Leopard), a multitude of iPods, the iPhone App store, expansion/transformation of .Mac into MobileMe, expansion of iTMS services, and the infamous QT 7.4 update that allowed people to rent movies from the iTMS but broke AE.
If Apple was more ProApps centric I figure we’d have an Apple mouse that could be used w/Color, more expansion slots in the towers, FW ports that didn’t all share the same bus, consumer-only updates that didn’t mess w/professional software, a fix for the gamma shift problems, more timely updates of the ProApps, etc.,.
Adobe and Avid have stepped it up recently I hope Apple responds in kind.

[Devin Crane] “The main reason Blu-Ray hasn’t made it to Mac yet is licensing, which BluRay just made a lot more simple and cheaper. That said Apple didn’t announce any new Drives with the Mac Pros last week. “
That’s the official Apple excuse but IMO BR hasn’t been added because Apple feels BR is a competitor to the iTMS and AppleTV. If companies like Adobe, Roxio, and Nero can support BR so can Apple. It’s funny to see Apple taking a ‘wait and see’ approach when they were one of the first to push desktop DVD authoring and even touted the limited ability to burn HD-DVDs as a feature of DVD SP.-A

You guys might want to dial back the ranting just a bit. 😉
If you need to run two monitors w/DVI just buy the a Mini Display Port to DVI adapter for $29. No need for a second gfx card.-A

[walter biscardi] “Yeah, rumor sites, they’re a great place for accurate information. I’m still waiting to see Final Cut Extreme that was touted 2 years ago on… let me see what was the name of the that site…. oh yeah, macrumors. “
Actually ThinkSecret.com, which Apple got shut down via court action, and PC Mag were the ones talking about FC Exteme. Macrumors.com rarely ever generates its own rumors and is largely a news & rumor aggregate and Mac enthusiast site.-A

Yes, FCP must see a Reel number otherwise it will not trim down the clip.

Speaking as a ‘worker bee’ I pretty much agree w/all the advice given to you Aaron by various people already. You started a thread w/a poorly worded posted that made it sound like you were looking for people to tell you that it’s okay to slack-off and it blew up in your face. Learn and move on. B*tch sessions are better had at a bar than on the internet. 😉

Like in Chris’ story, you just have to keep trying and if you have to take a crap job to make ends meet you have to take a crap job to make ends meet all the while keeping your eyes on the prize. My first stint in LA was a complete disaster. I had to move back to Indiana w/my tail between my legs, completely broke, living off my credit cards and working a Blockbuster. Not what I had in mind when I moved to LA 9 months earlier. 😉 But when I left LA I made a deal w/myself that I’d be back in two years and I was. No matter how bad it got (did I mention I qualified for food stamps at one point in time) I always kept in mind that everything I did were steps towards my greater goal of being an editor in LA.
I went through about 3 years of suck before things turned around. You just got to stay focused, stay relaxed (if you get freaked out it will show and no one wants to hire someone who is freaked out and/or desperate), and keep plugging away. Even if that means taking unglamorous jobs to pay the bills. It can’t rain all the time, brother. 🙂

Is getting into a ‘highly selective’ college a goal in and of itself or are you hoping that getting into a highly selective school will be good for your career path in this industry?

Ah, the way your previous post was written indicated that the timline was 1hr14min long which prompted me to say what I did.
Instead of using the Send to Color command have you tried to export an XML from FCP instead?

It’s recommended to keep the timelines sent to Color around 20 minutes or 200 edits. Try that and see if it helps.
