What are the specs of the computer(s) you’ll be using? XDCAM EX is a more CPU intensive codec than DVCPro HD, for example, so an older machine that runs DVCPro HD fine will struggle a bit more w/XDCAM EX. W/that being said, we’ve been using an EX1 for nearly a year now on shorter projects (less than 10 minutes) on Mac Pros as well as G5s and have no real complaints.

Movies are shot in a variety of aspect rations, not just 1.78:1 (aka 16×9).

1080i60 is interlaced which means it has fields which means you should *not* give them a progressive file.

I don’t think the XDCAM EX codec is supported until one of the 6.0.x updates.

If all you want is the media used in the timeline UNcheck “include master clips…” and UNcheck “include affiliate clips…”. I would add a few seconds of handles just to be safe.

We probably media manage 3-4 projects a week (5min to 30min in length) and the MM typically works as advertised. We generate about 1-2 TB of media a week and ‘only’ have a 60TB xSan so stripping out the ‘fat’ from projects is a necessary part of a media management workflow.

Nesting in FCP is, to use a technical term, wonky. IMO a better, although less flexible route, would be to export a self-contained QT movie of the sequence(s) instead of nesting them. Obviously any changes made would require a new QT movie to be exported, but it would keep things running smoother.
